High-pressure Phase Behavior of Mixture of Poly(ethylene-co-octene) with Hydrocarbons 2004-01-0015

Poly(ethylene-co-octene) has excellent compatibility with thermoplastic olefins, such as PE and PP. PEO can be used to improve impact property and resistance to low temperature brittleness of the polyolefin. The elastomeric property of PEO is the consequence of incorporation of octene comonomer into PEO. In this study, we will present the phase behavior for various mixtures of PEO and hydrocarbons up to 1900 bar, 160 °C. We determined the effect of PEO concentrations on the cloud-point behavior with n-pentane and 1-octene. The effect of solvent quality on the phase behavior of PEO - hydrocarbon mixtures is demonstrated by switching solvent from n-pentane to n-octane. Also, the phase behavior for the ternary systems of PEO - ethylene - 1-octene was determined.
