Four-Stroke V-Twin Diesel Motorcycle Engine with Electronic Common Rail Fuel Injection 2004-32-0055

The United States Department of Defense has directed that future military propulsion systems burn heavy fuels; namely, jet and diesel. The need for lightweight high power engines of 3 to 150 kW output is great. A 1760-cm3 displacement, advanced technology, 4-cycle V-twin diesel concept test engine was built and evaluated. The concept explored using commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) engine and system components in a unique combination to potentially meet military requirements. Preliminary engine dyno testing was encouraging and the engine is being installed in a vehicle (motorcycle) for continued test and development.
