Engine Management System for Motorcycle 2005-32-0031

While the restriction on exhaust emission as an environmental measure has been reinforced more than ever, the demands for high power for engines are escalating. The technology corresponding to these demands in the engine management system for motorcycles is being developed under such a situation. With the changing from carburetors system to electronic fuel injection system, various devices are installed; it can be said that technology for engine management system control has advanced remarkably these days. As for the microcomputer within the ECU that controls the system, microcomputer installed in ignition units had only 8 bits and the capacity of ROM was about 16 kB in 1990, but the microcomputer installed in fuel injection units is so efficient that it has 32 bits and the capacity of ROM is increased up to 256 kB in 2004. This means it is necessary to process various engine information at high-speed and in real time in order to execute a proper fuel injection and control ignition timing, especially while the engine is in a transient state. ECU will be provided with control that achieves both correspondence to the restriction on exhaust emission and responsive driving performance, which is very important for motorcycles in the future. We introduce fuel cut when decelerating and control when accelerating as an example for control to reduce exhaust emission and improve driving ability. It is necessary to cut fuel in order to reduce HC and improve fuel efficiency, but it sometimes makes it difficult to reaccelerate. Also you sometimes feel a shock when the throttle is opened suddenly for acceleration from steady driving state. We improved these problems by fuel control and ignition timing control.
