Ball Joint Pull Out Simulation using Finite Element Analysis 2006-01-2867

The present paper presents a method developed to predict the necessary load to extract the ball stud from the joint.
The method allows the designer to reproduce a destructive test, performing the disassembly process of an automotive joint.
The ball stud pullout is a critical characteristic, since it is related to the failure mode which leads the ball joint to a catastrophic failure. Therefore, it is very important to estimate the load which allow the ball stud to be extracted from the socket as a preventive method to prevent failure.
