A Multi-Objective Optimum Design of Dynamically Loaded Journal Bearing for a Prescribed π Extent Film 2009-01-1679

The design of finite journal bearing with extent film can be conveniently expressed as a function of pressure, since a fundamental feature of bearing is recognized in load bearing capabilities. In this paper an analytical pressure expression for design of dynamically loaded bearing has been used. The design function has been formulated as a multi-objective optimization problem by using oil film pressure and film thickness, with the starting and ending angular position as constraints. Additional constraints have been included to obtain bearing parameters within practical values. The optimum design is successfully tested by numerical example and the accuracy of the minimum film thickness and maximum oil film pressure are compared with the results of finite element method and short bearing approximation.
