Controlled Gas Plasma Deposition for Functionalized Semi-finished Aluminium Products 2009-01-3071

A new coating technology for functionalization of semi-finished aluminium products for heat exchanger (HEX) applications was developed. Compared to binder based flux coatings it is now possible to apply various kinds of fluxes for the Controlled Atmosphere Brazing (CAB) free from any adhesives to aluminium surfaces, which offers significant economic and technological advantages.
Several aluminium substrates were coated with different fluxes respectively materials and examined in pre and post brazed condition. As the results show, the new technology has the considerable potential to substitute or even replace common pre-fluxing processes for the CAB in HEX manufacturing.
