Fuel Additives for Reduction of Internal Diesel Injectors Deposits (IDID, “lacquering”): A Critical and Priority Route 2012-01-1687

Internal deposits formation in Diesel engine injection systems has probably been the most discussed topic in the last years in the field of Diesel engine and fuel compatibility (often referred to as ‘lacquering’ or IDID). All the mechanisms about the various forms of injectors lacquering are not fully known and lots of theories are being developed. This paper describes a method for reproducing and measuring lacquering on Diesel engine test. Thanks to this method, effects of fuel and fuel additives formulation have been assessed and some possible solutions to inhibit the mechanism leading to IDID are presented.
