THIS paper deals with the problems connected with high-speed loop-scavenged 2-stroke diesel engines. The theoretical processes of scavenging are described, and methods for their calculation are discussed. It is shown that it is possible to predetermine, to a considerable extent, the most important characteristic values of scavenging and, thus, to shorten the development work.
Various arrangements for the supercharging of 2-stroke engines are treated, and the problem of turbocharging this type of engine is described.
