A VISUAL STUDY OF BALL MOTION IN A HIGH-SPEED THRUST BEARING 570244

The motion of a ball in a high-speed ball thrust bearing is being examined experimentally. A high-speed movie camera has been employed to photograph marked balls in a high-speed angular contact bearing both with and without a cage. The technique has produced clear, useful pictures. Although analysis of the pictures is not complete, the preliminary data indicate that there are differences between the predicted and experimental results.
