Breakerless High Frequency Ignition Systems for Reciprocating Aircraft Engines 630260
Spark plug fouling and ignition timing changes due to breaker point wear and burning are major aircraft engine maintenance problems and cause significant performance penalties. The breakerless high frequency ignition system eliminates all breaker point and timing problems. In addition, the output voltage rise characteristics virtually eliminate spark plug fouling.
The system is a condenser discharge type. The condenser being charged from a rectified magneto generator and discharged by a silicon controlled switch. Timing is controlled by a stationary magnetic pick-up and a rotating timed paddle wheel which incorporates the required cylinder compensation.
