In-Flight Applied Rain Repellents for Aircraft Windshields 630370

A new in-flight applied windshield rain repellent system has been developed which provides improved visibility when flying in rain. The system applies a chemical solution to the windshield so that it is not wetted by the rain. The slip stream removes the water beads from the window to provide clear vision. The repellent must be reapplied periodically. A summary of the development program, a description of the Boeing 727 repellent system and performance, and the service experience to date is presented in this paper.
