Rover Case History of Small Gas Turbines 640012

The paper traces the history of Rover's activities in the automotive gas turbine field. After dealing briefly with the company's successive engine designs, a detailed and expansive survey of its current twin shaft automotive gas turbine, the 2S/140, is given. Much original information is made available, particularly on the design and manufacturing problems associated with static heat exchangers, and on the little discussed subject of gas cleanliness. Three prototype test vehicles, including the historic Jet 1 and the latest and most sophisticated vehicle, T.4, are discussed. Possible future developments are outlined.
