Metallic Friction Materials for Power Shift Transmissions 640179

Development of heavy-duty power shift transmissions has required significant changes in the materials of construction and design of oil cooled clutch discs. These are presented as design factors to increase capacity and durability. Limitations to existing metallic friction facings for use in future high-energy clutches are discussed, and a new type of refractory, heat resistant facing material capable of satisfying these expected operating conditions is presented.
