Aircraft Corrosion 640308

Air Force experience with aircraft corrosion problems is reviewed. Various problem areas are presented including: integral fuel tank corrosion, stress corrosion, exfoliation corrosion, and general corrosion. Experience with the use of “wet” fasteners and complete painting to minimize exfoliation corrosion is presented. Corrosion problems experienced with clad skins are also discussed.
