Corrosion Control of Missiles in Long Term Silo Environments 640337
Important mechanisms involved in the corrosive deterioration of modern missile systems hardware while in long-term silo environments are described. Corrosion problems inherent in missiles systems designs are discussed in relationship to the reliability requirements which have been established for this material. Corrosive elements that exist in a silo environment are presented and discussed. Criteria which have governed the selection of corrosion inhibiting finishes for parts and components of a typical and currently operational major missile system are presented.
