POTENTIAL TECHNOLOGY IMPROVEMENTS FOR THE CF6 TURBOFAN 680691

The CF6 engine is a high bypass ratio turbofan designed specifically for the generation of advanced trijet aircraft which will enter airline service in 1971. General Electric's continuing component technology programs are specifically directed toward improving the engine performance, weight, durability, noise and smoke characteristics and maintainability. This paper will describe the status of the CF6 development program and how these improvements are incorporated into the CF6; the CF6 engine growth program; and further areas of potential product improvements.
