The Influence of Brake System Properties on Motorcycle Braking Performance 810406

The results of a comprehensive range of braking distance measurements obtained from a modern motorcycle equipped with disc brakes are given and discussed. Problems caused by water on the friction areas of such brakes are described and explained along with the results of various palliative measures, including changes in disc and pad materials and the drilling and slotting of these. A pad material capable of providing a solution is described and evaluated and a test method to assess brake consistency between the dry and wet states is suggested.
