Modern designs of helical coil springs with variable diameters of coils and wires enable the chassis design engineer to reduce weight and packaging requirements. In addition, improvements of ride and safety can be achieved by means of progressive load-deflection curves.
Capabilities and limitations for design and manufacturing of suitable spring types are being discussed.
