Assessment of Positive Displacement Supercharging and Compounding of Adiabatic Diesel 840430

A new alternative to turbocompounding for converting exhaust heat from adiabatic diesels to mechanical energy is evaluated. The concept is based on a positive displacement screw compressor and expander pair applied to an adiabatic diesel for supercharging and mechanical power compounding to form a compact and efficient power system. Predictions of theoretical performance for the system and its components are given, and the technical feasibility and potential advantages of this system are discussed.
