Post Densified Cr 2 O 3 Coatings for Adiabatic Engine 840432

A Cr2O3 impregnation treatment process can be used to densify and strengthen existing coatings and materials and to produce new coatings for use in adiabatic engines.
Plasma sprayed zirconia densified with Cr2O3 exhibits an 87% lower wear rate than an undensified plasma sprayed zirconia coating, and a thermal conductivity value of 9.67 BTU -in/hr-ft2 -°F at 1832 °F. A Cr2O3 densified ceramic coating exhibits a thermal conductivity value of 14.9 BTU - in/hr-ft2 -°F at 1500 °F.
