Computer Modeling in New Vehicle Design 840863

This paper describes how crashworthiness and occupant protection characteristics are developed for new vehicle designs by using computer modeling augmented with tests. Computer models used are a non-linear structural dynamics model and a two-dimensional crash victim simulation occupant model. It is shown how those models are applied to lead the design in the preferred direction and used in the continuing development of the design.
