Friction in the piston group and new ideas for piston design 841299
This paper is dealing with the distribution of frictional losses within a petrol engine; and the majority of these losses are in the piston group. It is shown, how by innovative ideas the engine part ‘piston’ can be optimized in respect of friction and which effect it has on the total losses and the mechanical efficiency. It is also shown that it is difficult to improve fuel consumption in modern engines by reducing friction by single steps.
