The Development of Detroit Diesel Allison's New Generation Series 53 Engines 850259
A new generation of turbocharged Series 53 engines known as the Silver 53's have recently been developed at Detroit Diesel Allison. The development program was aimed at improving performance, fuel economy, reliability and durability and reducing basic engine noise while minimizing external changes to the engines. This paper discusses the advanced technologies employed in order to achieve these objectives. The durability and reliability testing done to demonstrate that the objectives were met and an overview of evolutionary and signifisant product changes which Detroit Diesel Allison has implemented are also discussed.
