Calculation and Improvement of Twin-Turbine Torque Converter Performance 852259

In this paper, a series of formulas for calculating torque converter chracteristics is given, some of which are derived by the authors. A computer program is also formulated, and with the aid of the program, the optimum entrance and exit vane angles of all 4 wheels can be found and the best performance chracteristics of the torque converter can be predicted. The problems of Chinese currently produced twin-turbine torque converters are then analysed, and with the optimum entrance and exit vane angles used and improvements in shape of vane and construction of wheels and others taken in the improved design and in trialproduction, the maximum efficiency of the first peak has been raised from 76% to 80%, that of the second peak from 78%; to 85%, the stall ratio has reached 5-5.2, and the other factors are in the required adequate range. Besides, the authors have designed a rotating vane reactor construction to replace the one-way clutch, which is completely successful in function.
