Chalmers Series 1200 Air/Rubber Truck Tandem 852345

The engineering objective was to design and develop a 40,000-lb. capacity tandem axle truck suspension mounted on air springs. It was to be developed from the existing Chalmers Series 800 rubber spring tandem suspension and was to provide a softer ride under all load conditions (Fig. 1). At the same time, the suspension was to be self-damping under any load condition without having to resort to shock absorbers.
