A High Energy Ignition System for Industrial Engines 852372

Large multicylinder spark-ignited engines almost exclusively use solid state capacitor discharge ignition systems.
These systems have replaced mechanical point-type systems on medium size engines and mechanical brush-type systems on larger engines.
With the advent of more restrictive emission standards, ignition system voltage and energy requirements have increased to enable engines to operate with cleaner emissions.
Some of these design concepts and performance standards of the Fairbanks Morse “9000” ignition are described and relate to the newer, higher performance standards now required to meet the above engine needs.
