Performance and Durability of a Catalyst Trap Oxidiser Installed on a City Bus for 65,000 Miles of Revenue Service 860138
Smoke and odour emissions from buses operating within city areas continues to be an issue of major environmental concern worldwide. Considerable work is underway throughout Western Europe and North America evaluating catalytic trap oxidisers as a means of attenuating these emissions.
An investigation into the durability of a catalytic trap oxidiser (CTO) under “real world” conditions of revenue service has been completed.
Results are presented for smoke, particulates, gaseous emissions and odour, measured throughout the first 50,000 miles. Also discussed are conclusions from a ‘post-mortem’ study of the CTO, carried out after 67,000 miles of service, demonstrating that the catalyst maintained a good level of activity.
