Engine test cell design is an important consideration for most engine manufacturers; proper test cell design can contribute to improved test cell efficiency, lower operating costs and more accurate engine test data. Optimum test cell designs are not, however, easily achieved and must address several, often contradictory, objectives: minimum test and setup time, lowest possible capital and operating costs, minimum noise and vibration transmission, and collection of accurate and reliable test data. Through careful engineering analysis, application of recently developed and existing hardware, and innovative systems engineering, significant improvements in engine test cell design have been realized.
