Scribing of Coated Steels for Corrosion Testing 862031

Comparison of the corrosion resistance of panels scribed by different laboratories with the same or different scribing tools has shown that correlation is difficult to achieve. The action of three scribing tools is described and compared since scribing tool performance is a key variable in the comparison. Test system methods are investigated to find one that correlates with the “real world”. The need for a combination impingement-corrosion test is described. Future actions are suggested for resolution of the test differences that exist today.
