Application of Criteria of Aircraft Tow Tractors 871816

Towing an aircraft through tight turning manuevers significantly affects the drawbar forces involved. Poor ramp conditions due to snow, ice or de-icing solutions can substantially decrease the coefficient of traction. Therefore, engineers working with this type of equipment must consider carefully all factors in applying the correct tow tractor to the ramp operation to insure safe braking as well as towing performance.
The AGE-2 Subcommittee of SAE has developed standard, formulae and data with which engineers may determine equipment selection for specific applications. The publications may be obtained from the SAE.
