Asbestos Substitution in Cylinder Head Gaskets 880144
In the light of the mounting publicity given to the health hazard from fine asbestos dust in recent years, GOETZE AG has at an early date developed non-asbestos soft materials for gaskets, especially cylinder head gaskets.
Two particularly important material alternatives (graphite foil and non-asbestos fiber soft materials manufactured on papermaking machines) are considered in depth.
The remainder of the paper discusses in detail the functional characteristics important to cylinder head gaskets of the non-asbestos gasket materials Kostafol (graphite). ASTADUR AF and ASTADUR AF45. The functional advantages and disadvantages of these materials are outlined.
