The development of new automotive vehicle dynamic control systems requires a system approach from the very beginning. A multidisciplinary system approach is shown using the ABS-development as an example. Initially the control algorithm is developed using simulation. Subsequently an experimental car, which is equipped with powerful electronical hardware for digital data acquisition and real time control, is used for fast high level language implementation, test and optimization of the control algorithm.
For the concept definition phase and the design of new complex vehicle dynamic control systems a parallel and iterative procedure is necessary. This shortens the design phase and minimizes the development risk.
