Powder coatings have become the material of choice for clear coating of OEM aluminum wheels. A brief review of the reasons for the switch to powder clear coats is offered. This paper will compare and contrast different generic types of clear powder coatings suitable for OEM aluminum wheel finishing. Comparisons in smoothness, clarity, cure requirements and physical properties will be discussed. Also, future trends for unique finishes will be discussed.
