The Turbocompound Diesel Engine 890647

The combining of the output of a diesel engine with that of an exhaust gas driven turbine is becoming increasingly attractive in the drive for improved fuel economy.
This paper reviews the history of such engines and examines the benefits that may be expected from engines of this type.
The turbomachinery design process is described which will produce a turbocompounded, wide speed range, heavy duty truck engine, with fuel consumption savings at all speeds.
