DEVELOPMENT OF A STALL IMPROVEMENT PACKAGE FOR THE GULFSTREAM IV 891021

A package of aerodynamic devices have been developed for the Gulfstream IV to enhance its stall characteristics. This package consists of an array of small vortilons beneath the leading edge plus a small stall strip inboard. This package has allowed Gulfstream to tailor the pre- and post-stall characteristics without compromising the wing's excellent transonic cruise characteristics. A discussion of the background that prompted this investigation is presented, the mechanisms through which the package work are explained and a brief review of the flight test program is given. As a conclusion, a comparison of the before and after characteristics are shown.
