Properties and Application of Compacted Vermicular Graphite Cast Iron in Vehicle Component 912535

Compacted vermicular graphite cast iron (cv iron) posseses distinguished mechanical and physical properties intermediate between nodular cast iron and grey cast iron. The Second Auto-Works (SAW) developed process to obtain stable vermicular graphite structure of its castings.
In very mountainous area of South-West China, truck engine exhaust manifolds are often heated to red hot due to continuous up grade climbing. Manifolds then cool rapidly while trucks descend. Grey cast iron manifolds fail shortly due to thermal fatigue. Nodular iron manifolds experienced severe heat distortion. Only cv cast Iron manifolds proved most successful with very much enhenced service life.
SAW has been producing more than 800,000 pieces of cv cast iron truck engine exhaust manifold. It is currently supplying cv cast iron manifolds to Shanghai-Volkswagen Santana car engines.
Cv cast iron has also been employed to make stronger transmission gear boxes.
