Internal Performance Audit of a Highly Backswept 91 MM Centrifugal Turbocharger Compressor 920043

This paper presents a comprehensive performance audit of a highly instrumented 91 mm single-stage turbocharger compressor. Numerous shroud static pressure and temperature taps are used to identify aerodynamic performance of various parts of the compressor, i.e., the inducer, impeller, vaneless diffuser, volute and exhaust diffuser. The pressure and temperature data obtained are corroborated with laser velocimeter measurements taken at the inducer, at the impeller tip and at the exhaust diffuser. This paper presents a data base for comparing data from other designs and a detailed procedure for instrumenting, testing, and evaluating comparative compressor designs for performance optimization.
