Structural Adhesive for Aluminum Body 920283

A structural one-part epoxy adhesive with excellent adhesive properties and durability was developed for aluminum alloy, which is regarded as a material suitable for reducing the body weight of automobiles. As a result of investigations of surface treatment, the oxide layer, surface finishing, and adhesion properties of aluminum alloy, it was found that adhesion durability varies widely depending on the surface condition of the aluminum alloy. It was also learned that by subjecting the aluminum alloy to surface treatments such as etching, adhesion durability was greatly improved.
It is expected that the use of aluminum alloy in automobiles will become widespread in the future. Undoubtedly, these adhesion technologies will become an extremely effective technique for joining automotive body panels made of aluminum alloy.
