Theoretical and Experimental Approach to Evaluate NVH Characteristics of Automobile Half-Shafts and Interconnecting Shafts 921468

This paper describes the use of the transfer matrix method (T.M.M.)for the evaluation of in-plane flexural vibrations of half-shafts and, with the purpose of representing the concentrated damping and the articulation freedom of the constant velocity (C.V.) joints, a model is proposed. A software using the TMM was developed and the results obtained from frequency calculations are compared with those obtained by experimental modal analysis in three different situations: at the test rig on the laboratory, at the vehicle on the laboratory and at the vehicle on the field.
