The SAE Oil Labeling Assessment Program - Six Year Cumulative Report 922296

The history and scope of the SAE Oil Labeling Assessment Program is presented along with the results of analyses on a total of 1,813 samples of engine oil purchased in the retail market over the past six years. Most of the samples were labeled with API SF or API SG Service Categories alone or in combination with API CC through CF-4 Category designations. However, five samples were obtained with the 1992 Sample Set which used only the API C Category. Also, a total of 81 engine oil samples found to be questionably labeled within the six year period, were repurchased and analyzed; these results are included.
