Harmonised Headlamp Design for Worldwide Application 930722

To facilitate the concept of the “World Car” in which one design can satisfy the requirements of all markets, a number of initiatives are underway to harmonise lighting regulations. The most significant of these is the harmonisation of installation and visibility requirements and more recently, attempts to define a new low beam pattern.
Whilst progress has been made with respect to installational requirements, it is unlikely that a worldwide harmonised low beam pattern will be developed in the near future. In view of this, a headlamp construction has been developed by Carello in which the major elements of the headlamp design can be commonised for all market applications. This paper outlines the approach taken and the advantages offered to the vehicle manufacturer.
