Chrysler 3.5 Liter V-6 Engine 930875

A new 3.5 liter, 60 degrees V6 engine has been designed specifically for Chrysler's 1993 MY line of mid-size sedans - Dodge Intrepid, Eagle Vision, Chrysler Concorde and New Yorker.
This new engine features many new components for enchanced performance. The cylinder head has a single overhead cam, four valve-per - cylinder design. The intake system is a cross-flow design equipped with dual throttle bodies, and the manifold also incorporates a vacuum operated tuning valve that increases the mid-range torque of the engine. A windage tray is used on every engine to reduce drag on the rotating components within the crankcase. Dual knock sensors (one per cylinder bank) are used to

take advantage of the aggressive spark advance and high compression ratio. The engine also utilizes a plastic, helical, water pump impeller that contributes to low parasitic power losses.
The engine incorporates many components and features to ensure durability. A forged steel crankshaft is used, and the block is equipped with cross-bolted main bearing caps. The pistons and rods are connected with full-floating piston pins. The camshaft is made with nodular iron and the lobes are induction hardened. The valvetrain utilizes roller camshaft followers for reduced friction and hydraulic lash adjusters to eliminate periodic lash adjustment. Silicone rubber gaskets are single-plane sealing surfaces are used to eliminate oil leaks.
Chrysler Corporation has introduced its new 3.5 liter, 60 degree V-6 engine for the 1993 MY. This engine was designed for use in Chrysler's new line of mid-size sedans - Dodge Intrepid, Eagle Vision, Chrysler Concorde and New Yorker. The objectives of this engine were as follows:
  • High output torque throughout the entire speed range of the engine.
  • High fuel economy.
  • Low NVH.
  • Maximum durability and to be leak free.
The main purpose of this paper is to describe the mechanical components of the engine and how they contribute to the objectives just mentioned. It has been organized into three sections:
  1. I.
    General Engine Description and Performance
  2. II.
    Component Descriptions
  3. III.
    Engine Durability
