The Taxi Project in Japan 931998

In Japan more than 3 billion people avail themselves of taxies whose number is 250 thousand. Taxi may be regarded as one of the public transportaions in Japan. A taxicab, which is not primarily designed and produced as a taxicab, is usually remolded only for the purpose of promoting durability. As far as a cabin is concerned, its dimension and function has not particularly been modified. Users desire easier boarding and alighting, improvement on comfortability, and a larger baggage space. Taxi companies and drivers wish less fatigue, easier operation, longer durability, and improvement on maintenance. Under the above mentioned situation, in 1990 fiscal year, started the research that was consigned to Japan Automobile Transport Technology Association(JATA) by Japan Federation of Taxicab Association. Themes to be discussed are as follows:
  1. 1.
how a taxicab in Japan should be?
  2. 2.
how the standard specifications for a taxicab in Japan should be?
  3. 3.
how to spread the newly developed taxicab?
This paper describes how is a pilot taxicab proposed by the researchers in the working group.
