Evaluation of Reed Valves in High Performance Two-Stroke Engines 942528

The operation of high performance two-stroke engines is highly dynamic and requires the interaction of many components and phenomena to realise maximum performance. The reed induction valve is one such component whose operation can be influenced by many parameters. This paper describes the design of a test apparatus which allows the reed valve performance to be evaluated in isolation from the multitude of engine variables. Several reed valve configurations are tested and results presented and discussed for reed tip motion and overall airflow.
