New Bath Formulation for Electrodeposition of Improved Corrosion and Wear Resistant Sliding Layers for Engine Bearings 960984

A short introduction is given on the deposition of sliding coatings on bearings from a methane sulfonic acid bath (MSA). The chemical composition of such layers is in the following range:

These layers, overplates, possess improved thermal stability, corrosion and wear resistance characteristics compared to those deposited from conventional fluoroborate baths. Bath stability is good enabling the deposition of layers with a homogeneous, consistent chemical composition. With respect to work place and environmental considerations there are advantages compared to conventional fluoboric acid bath.
