Visual simulation has added a new dimension to flight training simulators. Monochrome T.V. projection preceded the early colour displays which are, in turn, superseded by high definition colour systems incorporating features such as full runway and approach lighting.
The paper outlines the progress in visual simulation and high definition colour systems which we have today. The requirements of all-weather operation are detailed. New developments are discussed which will further advance the art of visual simulation.
