Variable Valve Timing - The “Mirabilis” Camshaft - Its Impact on the Environment and Fuel Consumption 921476

Cam profiles have hereto being designed as a compromise in an attempt to fulfill an array of requirements as a motor-car engine is accelerated from idle to full speed, with loads and temperature varying across the full spectrum.
To fully cope with the variable conditions under which the engine is normally operated, we have developed an improved version of the camshaft to comply with the following pre-requesites:
  • be flexible throughout its entire range of operation, i.e., without any abrupt change over from the basic to the fully modified valve cycle timing - and vice-versa - at any r.p.m. setting;
  • be able to alter valve timing in what concerns both valve opening and valve closing - thus altering the period the valve remains open - and simultaneously vary valve lift to further improve volumetric efficiency.
